Message from the MIST mailing list.
Dear Colleagues
Apologies if you have received this via the UK EISCAT mailing list.
- September SOC meeting
The next EISCAT Scientific Oversight Committee meeting will be held in Tromsų on the 14th September.
As the UK representative on SOC I would like to know if you have any EISCAT related issues that you would like me to raise at the meeting. Please send as soon as possible so that I can ensure any paperwork is submitted by the middle of August
- EISCAT's most important discoveries
The EISCAT director has asked for opinions on what we think are EISCAT's 3 most important discoveries - something that is very useful to know when talking to policy maker stakeholders. To quote Craig:
"Where has EISCAT made the largest impact or most important discoveries? Can those discoveries be explained to a non-specialist audience? Even if this can't be done easily, it would still be helpful to have them summarized."
Use of EISCAT in conjunction with other instruments is of course valid. I would appreciate your feedback, don't be shy promoting your own work! All feedback by September 10th please.
- EISCAT 3D
While you all have your thinking caps on and in a natural progression from the last item I would be very interested in knowing what you would like, or intend to use EISCAT 3D for. Not whether we should have it or spend money on anything else, just assume that EISCAT 3D is going to be built - what would you do with the system and why? Comments gratefully received as soon as possible.
- UK SOC/SAC representative
EISCAT has decided to reform the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to replace SOC. This will come into form when all Associates have signed up to the new agreement.
I have served on SOC since August 2012, when the previous representative asked me to take over. I am quite prepared and would be pleased to continue as the UK SAC representative; however since this is a new committee I thought this would be a good time to ask the community whether anyone else would like the opportunity to represent the UK on SAC. In particular I believe that SAC could do with more diversity.
If you are interested, please send an email to me and we can discuss what the role entails. If there are other candidates for the role then a method for selecting a representative will be determined.
Best regards
Andrew
