Collections Project Officer
Salary: Salary - £21,897 per annum (pro-rata) rising to £22,483 per annum (pro-rata) upon successful completion of probationary period.

Lambeth Palace Library, founded in 1610, is the historic library and record office of the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is an academic research library, specialising in ecclesiastical history, but with far wider-ranging archive, manuscript and printed collections. It is the principal repository for archives of the Archbishop of Canterbury and associated officials or institutions. It is managed and maintained by the Church Commissioners.
The collections range in date from the ninth century to the present day. There are some 200,000 printed books (30,000 earlier than 1700), 5,000 manuscripts (600 of which are medieval), and large quantities of archives. The Library continues to receive the modern papers of the Archbishops of Canterbury. Further details may be found on the Library's website: www.lambethpalacelibrary.org.
The Library serves a range of users, both from the UK and internationally, in its Reading Room, and remotely via email, postal and telephone enquiries. The Library uses the cataloguing module of Innovative's Millennium integrated library system.
We are currently looking for a Collections Project Officer to assist in the reorganisation of the printed collections, including the updating of the catalogue to reflect changes, and to catalogue and classify a range of printed material. To assist in basic preservation work.
Key tasks:
•Assist in reorganising printed collections by size
•Assist in the reorganisation of the Pamphlet Collection
•Identifying vulnerable items from collections and carrying out basic remedial measures and liaising with Conservation Department
•Checking and updating catalogue to correct errors and to reflect changes made to location of collections
•Cataloguing modern printed material
•Carrying out any other duties as required
Person specification:
•Good level of general education
•IT literate, and familiar with Microsoft Office applications
•Good verbal and written communication skills
•Familiarity with online cataloguing systems
•Able to work unsupervised and as a member of a team
•Able to organise own work and to prioritise duties
•Able to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
•Able to work methodically and accurately, with attention to detail and to agreed standards
•This post will require a considerable amount of manual handling and some working at height
