Dear All,
This is particularly important because specifically LBGT 'places' are disappearing fast. Why have a 'gay' pub when you can go into any pub now? Why have a cruising place when mobile apps allow you to meet anywhere? Most public toilets have now been closed down. Gay Pride venues have become just another commercial entertainment event.
Cheers,
Neil

Subject: New LGBT Life layer
Hi all,
I thought I'd share this latest news from Know Your Place because it is an interesting new model for community created HER data.
Out Stories Bristol approached us with a view to mapping the LGBT heritage in the city. Working in partnership with the University of Bristol, Bristol Record Office and the council they have created their own Wordpress mapping site that has a direct link to Know Your Place.
They moderate all the content and we harvest weekly updates from their Wordpress site for the LGBT Life layer you see on our resource.
It is a model we want to encourage with other communities as we try to address our under represented heritage. It is also interesting because although Pride of Place is continuing at a national level the Out Stories team recognised the value of sharing their data with the HER at the earliest stage because of the important planning role.
There are currently 170 data entries created by the community on the layer including images and related audio where available. One example is the earliest known gay pub

Pete
