Dear Members
I would like to draw your attention to two post currently advertised at the University of Portsmouth.
The Centre for Performing Arts in the School of Media and Performing Arts invites applications for a Senior Lecturer position in Drama and Performance with a particular emphasis on contemporary theatre practice.
Our BA (Hons) in Drama & Performance offers students a curriculum that integrates theory and practice in the exploration of 20th and 21st century European theatre making. The course has a particular focus on understanding theatre as performance and exploits staff specialisms in applied theatre, physical theatre and immersive performance. The innovative curriculum gives students an understanding of all aspects of contemporary theatre and embraces Practice-as-Research methodologies in addition to more traditional approaches.
This is a particularly exciting time to join our Performing Arts team because new purpose-built facilities for Drama and Performance and Musical Theatre have just been opened on a site adjacent to Portsmouth’s New Theatre Royal. This develops our on-going working relationship with this beautiful Victorian theatre and marks the beginning of a new chapter for our work in the heart of the city of Portsmouth.
We seek an outstanding individual with excellent subject knowledge in contemporary theatre and performance, including applicable critical, analytical and Practice-as-Research approaches. They will deliver, coordinate and review a range of teaching units within the Drama and Performance curriculum. They will undertake marking and verification of assessments and also contribute to the general delivery and development of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. They will engage with the research culture of our centre and school ensuring their knowledge is kept current through active scholarship and contact with the theatre industry.
Applicants must have previous experience of lecturing in theatre within higher education, hold a doctorate in a related discipline and have suitable publications ready for a planned entry into REF2020. They should be able to motivate students in theoretical, production and devised theatre work and, in addition to complementing existing specialisms, be willing to contribute to generic teaching across our Drama and Performance and Musical Theatre courses and to course administration. The role requires the ability to plan, coordinate and supervise teaching and performances both within the university and at outside venues. A track record in academic research and experience of Practice-as-Research methodologies, critical approaches to theatre and engagement with the theatre industry are highly desirable.
For an informal discussion regarding the requirements of the role please contact Joanna Bucknall, Course Leader for Drama and Performance ([log in to unmask]) or George Burrows, Head of the Centre for Performing Arts ([log in to unmask])

We are also seeking PTHP Posts in Drama & Performance. The School of Media and Performing Arts in the University of Portsmouth wishes to appoint hourly paid part-time lecturers to a bank of teaching staff for opportunities in the 2016-2017 academic year.
We seek lecturers to deliver specific units of teaching on our BA (Hons) Drama & Performance degree programme. Part-time lecturers are expected to follow and deliver the established curriculum and contribute to assessment activities including moderation of assessments. Although a certain amount of independence in planning and delivering of teaching and assessment is expected, post holders will need to communicate well with the full-time staff and work effectively as part of a teaching team.
Applicants should have a relevant first degree and an applicable postgraduate qualification.
As well as good general subject knowledge, applicants should demonstrate specialist experience in one or more of the following areas:
· Contemporary actor training
· Critical and cultural theory
· Physical theatre

· Theatre industry and enterprise
· Arts funding
· Immersive theatre
