Dear all,
I have been asked to pass details of this petition on to the group.
You might have already heard of the recent changes of policy by Academia Historica (國史館) in Taiwan. The archives hold valuable records of China's Nationalist government, which were brought to Taiwan from mainland China around 1949, as well as important documents on contemporary Taiwan.
The most problematic of the recent policy changes is that researchers from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao are denied access to the archives (which is written in a strategically vague way in the petition).
Historians in Taiwan have organised an online petition so that Academia Historica will not implement this change. They are currently collecting signatures from their colleagues based in the West and Japan (not from colleagues based in the PRC, so as to avoid political implications of the petition in the eyes of the Taiwanese authority).
