‘Tracing the Bridge’ Conference, 5-6th September 2016, Loughborough University : Call for delegates
Drawing Research Network Conference convened by TRACEY School Members, Loughborough University
Our conference theme, ‘Tracing the Bridge’ invited proposals focused on drawing as an activity engaging with ‘the bridge’ as a form of connection, literal or metaphorical. The rich range of proposals we received from researchers within many disciplines, and practitioners utilising and testing drawing in myriad ways, enabled the selection of papers demonstrating divergent and provocative thinking and argument.
We now invite the registration of delegates to participate in our two-day conference. This has been specially designed to connect and integrate drawing theory and practice, to range across disciplines and geographical locale, and to showcase drawing as a tool that enhances knowledge. The conference is structured so that all delegates participate in all activities, thus maximising discussion and participation. The mornings are devoted to the presentation of papers, the afternoons offer a choice of workshop activities and informal discussion and the conference dinner has guest speaker Garry Barker (Leeds College of Art).
The formal papers are not grouped thematically but demonstrate interdisciplinary and cross-cultural thinking. The presenters – international, within continental Europe and from the United Kingdom - discuss drawing in the visual arts and design, humanities, life sciences and the STEM subjects. While they focus on the distinctive roles of drawing in different contexts they embrace the power of drawing as a means of establishing bridges and facilitating visual communication.
