Dear All,
Following on from David's message below, I would like to invite you to my leaving event on 9th September. It has been a pleasure to work with you all over my seven years with ARLIS and I feel very fortunate to have made so many lovely friends.
It will be a modest do held at All Stars, Holborn, London - https://www.allstarlanes.co.uk/locations/holborn we will be in the bar from 6.30pm - no bowling booked but do feel free! We will however be making the most of the amazing cocktail selection ;)
Do let me know if you can make it so I can pass on numbers to the venue.
Best wishes,
Lorraine
ARLIS is facing a time of great change which reflects changes in the library profession resulting in falling income and a declining number of members. With this comes the realisation that such a small society as ARLIS can no longer afford to employ a Business Manager. Council has decided that there is no alternative to making the post redundant. It is with great regret therefore that I have to announce that Lorraine Blackman will be leaving us on 9th September. On the other hand I am pleased to announce that Lorraine goes on to start an exciting new role, she wishes ARLIS all the best for the future and will be keeping in touch with the many friends she has made during her time with us. She looks forward to seeing as many members as possible at the soon to be planned leaving event.
Lorraine has brought a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and dedication to the role for seven years and she will be much missed by everyone who has worked with her. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lorraine for all her hard work and wish her well for the future in her new post.
The essential duties of the Business Manager will revert to the officers and members of Council and ordinary members of ARLIS, who of course are all volunteers. This will have a profound change on our constitution and our ways of working. Although initially shocking, such changes will be part of a creative process which all being well will produce a revitalised ARLIS which better reflects and responds to the needs and capacity of our membership. ARLIS relies on the contributions of volunteers and will do so even more without a Business Manager. Why not volunteer for the new and exciting roles which will be created?
The process of change will be informed by the results of the membership survey carried out earlier in the year and which is due to report soon.
Please watch out for further emails outlining the transition period and Lorraine’s leaving event.
Once again best wishes for the future to Lorraine.
