Glamorgan's Blood: Dark Arteries, Old Veins - Cataloguing and Conserving the Records of the National Coal Board
Glamorgan's Blood: Dark Arteries, Old Veins is a project funded by the Wellcome Trust to catalogue and conserve the records of the Glamorgan area of the National Coal Board (NCB).
The NCB collection is one of the largest held by Glamorgan Archives, comprising 344 boxes, 575 rolls and 707 volumes, and ranging in date from 1799 to 1989. It includes both paper records and photographic media. Despite the inadequate finding aids, the collection is our fifth most frequently consulted. It consists of over 50 separate accessions deposited between 1957 and 2002, which include pre-vesting date colliery records for Glamorgan, records of pits operated by the NCB, and plans and photographic collections relating to the whole South Wales Area. There are records of previously privately owned companies, subsidiary industries and miners’ welfare, including hospitals, pit baths, cottage rents and rescue associations.
Working with a Project Conservator (for 2 years of the project), the Project Archivist will reconstruct identifiable fonds of pre-vesting date records of private companies and catalogue the remaining post-1947 NCB records as an identifiable fonds. You will create authority files and subject indexes conforming to international standards for archival description. You will work together with the Glamorgan Archives team and other stakeholders to ensure that this ambitious project fulfils its objective to support diverse research audiences and engage fully with the public.
The successful candidate will have a degree and a recognised professional postgraduate qualification in archives and records management. Due to the scope and complexity of the collection you will have significant cataloguing experience, including working with CALM. You will be an excellent communicator who can liaise effectively with academics as well as planning and delivering community outreach activities. An understanding of coal industry history and records would be an advantage.
This is an excellent opportunity to help us enhance the discoverability of a varied and significant archive collection, to establish and promote an active research resource and to work at Wales' largest local authority archive service.

Gwaed Morgannwg: Rhydwelïau Tywyll, Hen Wythiennau - Catalogio a Chadw
Cofnodion y Bwrdd Glo Cenedlaethol
Mae Gwaed Morgannwg: Rhydwelïau Tywyll, Hen Wythiennau yn brosiect a ariannwyd gan y Wellcome Trust i gatalogio a chadw cofnodion rhanbarth Morgannwg o’r Bwrdd Glo Cenedlaethol (NCB).
Mae Casgliad yr NCB yn un o’r mwyaf ym meddiant Archifau Morgannwg, yn cynnwys 344 o flychau, 575 o roliau a 707 cyfrol, ac yn amrywio o ran dyddiadau o 1799 hyd 1989. Mae’n cynnwys cofnodion papur a chyfryngau ffotograffig ill dau. Er gwaetha’r cymorth chwilio annigonol, y casgliad hwn yw’r pumed o safbwynt yr amlder yr eir iddo. Mae’n cynnwys dros 50 o dderbyniadau a roddwyd i’r archif rhwng 1957 a 2002, sy’n cynnwys cofnodion pyllau glo ym Morgannwg cyn ffurfio’r Bwrdd, cofnodion pyllau oedd yn cael eu rheoli gan yr NCB, a chynlluniau a chasgliadau ffotograffig yn berthnasol i Ranbarth De Cymru gyfan. Mae cofnodion cwmnïau fu gynt yn rai preifat, is-ddiwydiannau a chofnodion lles glowyr, gan gynnwys ysbytai, baddondai’r pyllau, rhenti bythynnod a chymdeithasau achub.
Gan weithio gyda Chadwreithwr Prosiect (am gyfnod o 2 flynedd), bydd yr Archifydd Prosiect yn ail-greu fonds y gellir eu hadnabod o gofnodion cwmnïau preifat cyn sefydlu’r Bwrdd a chatalogio gweddill cofnodion yr NCB wedi 1947 fel fonds y gellir ei adnabod. Byddwch yn creu ffeiliau awdurdod a mynegeion pwnc yn cydymffurfio â safonau rhyngwladol ar gyfer disgrifio archifol. Byddwch yn cydweithio gyda thîm Archifau Morgannwg a rhanddeiliaid eraill i sicrhau bod y project uchelgeisiol hwn yn cyflawni ei nod i gefnogi cynulleidfaoedd ymchwil amrywiol ac ymgysylltu’n llawn gyda’r cyhoedd.
Bydd gan yr ymgeisydd llwyddiannus radd a chymhwyster ôl-radd proffesiynol cydnabyddedig ym maes archifo a rheoli cofnodion. Yn sgil ystod a chymhlethdod y casgliad, bydd profiad catalogio sylweddol gennych, gan gynnwys gweithio gyda CALM. Byddwch yn gyfathrebwr gwych all gydgysylltu’n effeithiol ag academyddion yn ogystal â chynllunio a darparu gweithgareddau allgymorth cymunedol. Byddai dealltwriaeth o hanes a chofnodion y diwydiant glo o fantais.
Mae hwn yn gyfle ardderchog i’n cynorthwyo ni i gynnig mwy o gyfleoedd darganfod i gasgliad archif arwyddocaol ac amrywiol, i sefydlu a hyrwyddo adnodd ymchwil gweithredol ac i weithio i wasanaeth archif mwyaf llywodraeth leol yng Nghymru.
Am sgwrs anffurfiol cysylltwch â Rhian Diggins ar [log in to unmask] ffôn: 029 2087 2299.
