Dear Julie,
Regarding procalcitonin, we used a POCT IA chromatography cassette at Southend, but it was a only for ITU requests and performed by the BMS staff.
The cassette was expensive and quite subjective, as it was a classic eye read. Results would help clinicians to decide whether to administer Xigris in severe sepsis, this since been superseded by another drug with less complications. See the link for the ThermoFisher PCT-Q-Rapid:
http://www.procalcitonin.com/pct-assays/pct-q-rapid.html
Personally, I think that I'd go straight to POCT lactate with full connectivity. Just at thought, as it would be in line with national guidelines and secondary care protocol.
Kind regards,

Thanks Kerry,
Suggest spend cash on the air tube - as you can then improve your overall service and also sort the CRP issue out at the same time?
Kind regards
Ian

Hi Ian,
Our NICU don't have a dedicated air tube system so rely on porters to transport samples to the lab which invariably delays the results but, more importantly, the QuikRead go only requires 10uL of blood.
Kind regards,
Kerry

Presumably you have a lab in your hospital to do CRP?
That being the case, why would you want to do CRP at POCT?
Regards
Ian

Hi Julie,
We've been looking at POCT CRP for our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit using the Orion QuikRead go analyser (brochure attached for your information). It was being distributed in the UK by Oxford Biosystems but has recently been acquired by Roche.
As you'll see from the test kit information currently both wrCRP and CRP methods available however, due to an issue earlier this year, Orion are predicting that the earliest estimate for relaunch of wrCRP will be early 2017. I also understand that they'll withdraw the CRP method when wCRP is available again.
If you'd like any further information, just let me know.
Kind regards,
Kerry

We have had a query from one of our GPs regarding POCT CRP or procalcitonin. I was wondering what is being used in GPs for these tests and would value any comments or experiences of the POCT tests being used.
