An exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to join a friendly and growing team within Warwick CTU for a salaried 2-year training in medical statistics.
Please note that an incorrect version of this advertisement (stating that the fellow will gain training and experience in the design and analysis of complex intervention trials) was unfortunately posted initially on both the University of Warwick and jobs.ac.uk websites. If you are considering applying for this post please check that you have the right version - the methodology project will be as below (i.e. relate to methods of inference for use in clinical trials of populations at high-risk of death).
We look forward to hearing from you.
Research Associate (78442-086)
University of Warwick - Warwick Medical School, Clinical Trials Unit
Location: Coventry
Salary: £25,023 to £28,143 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Contract / Temporary
Placed on: 19th August 2016
Closes: 18th September 2016
Fixed term contract for 2 years.
Warwick Clinical Trials Unit is seeking to recruit a graduate in mathematics, statistics or another relevant quantitative subject to undertake a research methods training fellowship, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), with the aim of starting a career in health research. The Fellowship provides 2 years of dedicated time for the Fellow to undertake structured methodology training and gain research experience in a high-quality environment, and includes funding for research/training costs and tuition fees. In the first year, it is expected that the Fellow will undertake an MSc in Medical Statistics at the University of Leicester.
In the second year, the Fellow will gain training and experience in the design, delivery and analysis of clinical trials and, in particular, will undertake a research project investigating methods of inference for use in clinical trials of populations at high-risk of death (studies of the very elderly, for example, or emergency medicine). In such studies, one might be interested in investigating how a treatment affects a particular measure over time but deaths mean that the series of measures is truncated for some participants. The Fellow will gain experience of using standard and new methods for analysing longitudinal measures with informative drop out and will, after presenting and discussing their critique with their supervisor(s), have the opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of specific guidance and/or new methodology in this area.
You will have a first degree (Class I or II) or equivalent in a subject containing a substantial coverage of statistical theory, methods and practice. You will be IT literate, self-motivated with excellent communication skills and have the ability to work well individually as well as in a team.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Ranjit Lall ([log in to unmask]) or Dr Jane Warwick ([log in to unmask]).
Full details of the duties and selection criteria for this role can be found in the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick’s jobs pages (http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/humanresources/vacancies/).
