Abstract
A unified route choice model is proposed, which incorporates the various behavioral mechanisms in route choice proposed in the literature, such as the shortest path, bounded rationality, asymmetric preference and the recent time surplus maximization. In the proposed unified model, travelers are assumed to compare travel cost to their status quo (travel cost of the currently used path) in deciding whether to switch to another alternative; and the underlying value of time is adaptive in the sense that it varies across different route choice contexts. It is found that the status quo-dependent route choice model can handle the route choice inertia resulted from travelers' misperceptions as well as asymmetric preference. Moreover, the inertia is path-specific and able to incorporate the scaling effect of travel cost on travelers' route choices.

About the CTS Seminar Series
The CTS seminar series aims to facilitate discussion on current research topics in the transport field. Seminars are held jointly with our colleagues in the Centre for Transport Studies at University College London. They are usually held on Wednesday afternoons at Imperial College London or University College London.
Seminars are free of charge and open to all interested parties.
