Dear Colleagues,
I'd like to congratulate all of you who have had a contribution to CHEP
accepted for the conference in San Fransisco this autumn. The level of
success for GridPP is, perhaps, unprecedented, with 11 talks and 15
poster accepted at the premier conference in our field.
Unfortunately, this CHEP is particularly expensive for us; a combination
of an expensive city, a long-distance away; and the exchange rate. This
is exacerbated by the reduction in travel budget available in GridPP5.
We have thought hard about this and have taken into account the fact
that the next CHEP will be a lot cheaper and will fall in FY18, but
inevitable we are unable to fund all the requests for support. The
situation is further complicated by the juxtaposition of the WLCG
workshop the weekend before; and HEPIX shortly afterwards.
David Kelsey will be in contact within the next day or so, to let people
know what we can contribute to their travel costs. The general principle
is that GridPP will fund 50% up to some maximum that Dave will specify,
with an emphasis on supporting those people who are giving talks. Please
accept my apologies if we are unable to fund you or unable to fund you
at the level you need. Please do come back to me if there are particular
circumstances of which we were not aware.
***IMPORTANT*** Please wait until you have confirmation from Dave Kelsey
of the level of support we can offer, but once that is known, please
take advantage of the early-bird registration and book flights as soon
as possible.
Regards, Dave.
