Please could you participate in this short survey (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/DLZ2F2G) on how open data is impacting on healthcare recordkeeping.
Katherine is currently studying for an MA in Archives and Records Management at UCL and is carrying out some research which explores ideas of open government and access to public sector information within the UK NHS, focusing on a case study of a hospital trust in South East England. As well as forming the basis for her MA thesis, the research will be also used to produce a research report for the InterPARES Trust (https://interparestrust.org/).
The research examines the existing role of records and information professionals, their current responsibilities and the extent to which, if at all, these functions are changing in the new context of open government data and the proactive release of public sector information. It will then be possible to identify the impact that this will have on the recordkeeping profession, in particular, what challenges it will present to records and information professionals in areas of particularly complex and sensitive records, such as the UK public health service.
The research will include a brief comparison of recordkeeping in similar environments, which is where the survey comes in, with the purpose of gaining an insight into records and information management practices, policies and views towards open government and open data within similar recordkeeping environments to that of the case study trust.
All responses to the survey are completely anonymous. The survey does ask for the participant's job title and place of work, but this is only to gain an insight into the range of institutions represented in the results - places of work will not be named in the outcomes of the research, and as such all participants will be completely anonymised.
If you have any questions about the research project please feel free to contact the researcher, Katherine Chorley, [log in to unmask]
The findings of the survey will be discussed at the next HARG meeting on 20 July at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
