Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Nuclear/Stellar/Galactic Astrophysics
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in nuclear,
stellar, and/or galactic astrophysics. The research project includes
nucleosynthesis processes and their related nuclear uncertainties, or
galactic chemical evolution and their application to hydrodynamical
simulations of galaxies (chemodynamical simulations). The appointed
PDRA will work with Dr. Chiaki Kobayashi ([log in to unmask]) at
the University of Hertfordshire but will also perform collaborative
work with the UK nuclear astrophysics consortium BRIDGCE
(http://www.bridgce.ac.uk/). The PDRA will be encouraged to develop
their own research program and leadership skills.
The position is funded by the Science & Technology Facilities Council
of the UK, and is available for up to 2 years, with a start date of
October 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. The starting salary
will be on the UH7 academic scale at pt 30. Appointment at a higher
salary point will be considered in the case of some years of
post-doctoral experience.
Applicants should have, or should have submitted for, a PhD in physics
or astrophysics or a related area and should have a demonstrated
aptitude for research. Experience in computer programming and parallel
computing is highly desirable. A local LINUX cluster and the national
supercomputing facility DiRAC are available.
