Hi all
I'm posting this on behalf of a friend - please get in touch with James for more info:
I’m looking to sign up authors for two books, one a history of physics, the other an introductory guide to the periodic table.
The physics one is part of a new series and will be similar to a philosophy title that we’re producing at the same time. The premise is the same though – landmark events and what makes them important – so it’s not a book that will require detailed technical explanations. Examples include:
1572 – A supernova appears in the constellation Cassiopeia
1608 – Hans Lippershey designs the first practical telescope
1633 – Galileo Galilei is tried for heresy
1660 – The Royal Society is founded
1687 – Sir Isaac Newton publishes the Principia
1714 – Gabriel Fahrenheit invents the mercury thermometer
1759 – Halley’s comet returns as predicted
1789 – The French Revolution begins in Paris – metric measurement
1803 – John Dalton develops the concept of atomic weights
1817 – Wilhelm III appoints Georg Ohm to the Jesuit Gymnasium of Cologne
1842 – Christian Doppler gives a lecture in Prague
