Dear All
I am organising an LGBTQ STEM event to link to the Pride of Place project (https://historicengland.org.uk/research/inclusive-heritage/lgbtq-heritage-project/).
Pride of Place is a Historic England initiative to identify the locations and landscapes associated with England's LGBTQ heritage. This interactive map has been populated by the community to capture our histories and heritage. The map can be accessed here mapme.com/prideofplace
A lot of the information was mapped at pinning parties. These are informal events that bring people together to meet, discuss, reminisce and (re)discover new locations with LGBTQ significance.
To date there are no Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) related posts on the map. LGBTQ input is as rich here as in other sectors but, for many reasons, can be more invisible and less championed. This is something I wanted to directly address by holding a STEM themed pinning party.
The event will be take place in the Reading Rooms at the Wellcome Collection, between 2-5pm on Saturday 16th July. The event is free, informal and open to all. You can research new locations or add one of personal significance to the map. Users can create their own login or use the default (anonymous) one. A few laptops will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Please note there are no charge points available and no food or drink it allowed in the Reading Rooms. People can of course add to the map remotely at any time too.
I would be very grateful if you could circulate this information to your LGBTQ and STEM groups and social media channels.
A Facebook event can be found here, https://www.facebook.com/events/1044808582278886/. If you would like any more information or poster/flyer PDFs then please do let me know.
I really appreciate your support.
Thanks,
Bentley
