A new Master of Science Program Computational Sciences at FU Berlin / Germany is open for registration.
Students enrolled in the program will be taught how to apply precise mathematical and computer-based methods and to develop software for solving current scientific problems. The classes will mainly be taught in English. The instructors in the program are from the disciplines of chemistry, physics, geosciences, mathematics, and computer science.
The four-semester master's program combines theoretical and application-oriented contents and is divided into the following four components:
* Synchronization: Learning fundamental methods of computational sciences and establishing an interdisciplinary profile from courses that were not worked on in the respective bachelor’s degree program
* Scientific computing: Setting a priority in numerics, statistics, or computer science
* Specialization: Focus on one of three scientific fields: molecular sciences, atmospherical sciences, geosciences
* Master’s thesis: Writing up a research project in the field chosen for specialization
Specialization area Molecular Sciences:
Molecular structure and interactions are essential to the understanding of biology, the development of pharmaceutics, the design of new materials and of novel computing devices. The main simulation techniques in this area are classical molecular dynamics and molecular quantum mechanics. These techniques rely on solid knowledge in statistical mechanics, numerics, software design and high-performance computing that are all taught within the MSc program Molecular Sciences. Your profile is that of a computational chemist, computational physicist or applied mathematician with skills sought both in academia and in industries that engage in biotechnology, nanotechnology or pharmaceutics.

The registration will stay open til August 15, but you are encouraged to apply early. Decisions will be made and sent out til approximately mid-September. This late application deadline is due to the fact that the program starts this year, next year registration will be earlier. If you are interested are have already applied to other study programs in Germany, note that you can apply to multiple programs simultaneously and transfer your regristration later once you have been accepted.
If you have questions, email to the program office ([log in to unmask]) or to ([log in to unmask]).
