The guest editors of Interactions: Studies in Communication & Culture would like to draw your attention to mode of submission amendments for the special issue on 'Suicide and the Media'.
We invite any interested parties to submit proposals of between 200-350 words by 30th September 2016. Please forward your proposal or enquiries to Dr Heather Sutherland at [log in to unmask] or Dr Gabriel Moreno at [log in to unmask] citing name, affiliation and contact details.
Following acceptance, contributors will be invited to submit their completed texts (of between 6000-8000 words) by 15th January 2017. The journal is due for publication in Summer 2017.
Articles for this special issue are welcome relating to any of the following themes:
• Media role: help or hindrance? Beneficial or harmful?
• Media and suicide bereavement and/or memorialisation and the media after a suicide
• Representation of suicide in media texts, including in different genres (e.g. Drama, Documentary, News, etc.) and in different media (e.g. Music, Press, Broadcasting, etc.)
• Role of media in suicide awareness and prevention activities
• Cross-cultural/national perspectives on suicide and the media
• Media practitioner and production studies, including consideration of collaborative work uniting media and health professionals
• Policy and regulations regarding suicide in the media, including consideration of public or private sector approaches to media and suicide and/or issues of social responsibility
• Audience research and user case studies relating to suicide and the media (e.g. Considerations of gender, age-ranges, specific professions etc.)
• Online ‘suicide communities’ and ‘computer-mediated counselling’
• Historical perspectives of suicide and the media
• Methodological processes and considerations when examining suicide and the media
Proposals on subjects outside of these themes will also be considered if submitted.
