Hi All
TFPL still have spaces on our Information Architecture course running on the 27th July - https://www.tfpl.com/events/introduction-to-information-architecture-3/
We all appreciate finding the right information quickly. No matter what IT systems or applications we use, there is one way to improve the accuracy and amount of relevant information at our fingertips.
Whether we are dealing with documents, data or multimedia files, organising and tagging content using standard structures will always enhance navigation, search and information delivery. This structuring – or information architecture – can be simple or comprehensive. But if we want to find and use information effectively, whatever the size or scope of our business, it cannot be ignored.
Key learning objectives include:
- Introduction to Information Architecture (IA)
- Problems requiring IA, e.g. lack of information strategy, management focus on technical solutions, uncontrolled vocabularies, siloed content management
- Business benefits of IA
- IA in context of enterprise architecture – integrating the layers
- IA in practice
- Unstructured information – taxonomies and related metadata
- Structured information – three types of data models: conceptual, logical, physical
- User-centred website design
- Practical exercise – from the same set of terms, build a two-level taxonomy, a conceptual data model and an associated website wireframe
Standards for IA – Resource Description Framework, ISO standard for structured information, XML, etc.
- Uses of IA
- Business intelligence, Key Performance Indicators, dashboards
- Big, Open and Linked data
- Content classification
- Navigation
- Search
- Information delivery, e.g. profiles and personas
- Document lifecycle management
- IA governance – principles, policies, structure and process, including role of information asset register
- IA management tools
- Data modelling tools for structured information
- Mind-mapping and taxonomy management software for unstructured information
- IA tools for user-centred web design
