This is your chance to come and work at The Postal Museum at an incredibly exciting time but you need to get your application in fast!
Join a large team of archivists to help manage the archive of Royal Mail and Post Office Ltd, and move the vast archive from it's current home to a new-build repository that's part of a major new museum and visitor attraction, opening in Spring 2017. You'll work closely with Royal Mail and Post Office Ltd. helping them manage their legal obligations and responsibilities for record keeping, and ensure that their rich archive continues to grow. As part of the team you'll help increase access through appraisal, cataloguing, working in the search room, helping the businesses see the value of their heritage and how to use it, and increasing online and off-site access.
The archive is Designated by the Arts Council and the archive (1636 - 1969) was added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. As well as the expected business records the archive holds a vast array of marketing material, including photographs, posters, magazines and leaflets, and of course the artwork and design process for all UK stamps, from the printing plates and first sheets of the Penny Black, through to artwork in case Scotland won the 1978 World Cup, right up to modern day stamp issues. It's richness for social historical research is becoming more widely recognised and several AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Awards have been made.
