The Geological Society Library is delighted to present its latest event 'Maps, Meteorites, Mary Anning & the Missing Link' on Friday 15th July, 7.00-8.30pm, held as part of the Burlington House Courtyard Lates programme.
Visit our geological salon and hear about how the first geological maps of Britain were created, the theories on the origins of meteorites before the concept of modern science, the identification of the Jurassic marine reptiles discovered by Mary Anning and the audacious Piltdown fraud which fooled the leading scientists of the day into believing that Britain was the cradle of modern humanity. The evening will be a chance to view some of our archives & special collections, including the Society’s very own meteorite which fell in 1822!
Pre-booking is essential, tickets cost £12.
