Project Title: Choices and consumption: modelling long and short term decisions in a changing world (DECISIONS)
We are looking for a committed, highly motivated and innovative individual with strong choice modelling skills and a proven ability to conduct state-of-the-art research.
This post is for working in an exciting long term research project, hosted in the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), but with cross-university collaborations through the Choice Modelling Centre (CMC). The project looks at reconciling modelled choices with real world choices, developing models for interactions between decision makers and between short term and long term decisions, improving the interface between discrete choices and continuous consumption, and making use of innovative new data sources. This is a multi-faceted research project and you will be able to contribute to individual components of the work as well as helping to shape the direction of the research according to your own interests and background.
You will be expected to take academic ownership of large parts of the programme and make a lasting contribution to the field. You will also contribute to the empirical component of the project, which makes use of an innovative survey combining social network analysis, attitudinal surveys, a life course calendar and GPS smartphone tracking.
You will be expected to make a full contribution to the vibrant cross-university Choice Modelling Centre and will also be a member of the Economics and Discrete Choice research group within ITS.
You will have the opportunity to start exciting and scientifically challenging collaborations with the members of the Choice Modelling Centre and their contacts around the world. You will be encouraged to develop your programming skills and become more independent. Several advanced R seminars will help you achieve your goals.
You will have a PhD (or be very close to obtaining a PhD) in choice modelling and a strong track record of developing state-of-the-art modelling techniques and applying them to different decision contexts. You will also have a developing track record of peer-reviewed publications in international journals. Cross-disciplinary experience and survey design experience are desirable.
