The Centre for Transport Studies is pleased to welcome
Professor Andrew Dawson (University of Nottingham)
to lead a seminar entitled
Low Volume Road Infrastructure
to be held
Wednesday 13 July 2016 @ 16:00
Please join us for presentation and discussion at
Room 207, Skempton (Civil Eng.) Building, Imperial College London
Abstract
Low volume roads are critical pieces of infrastructure for their users - often providing access not available by any other means. Yet the revenue base to fund them is very small. The seminar will describe their characteristics drawing on information from both cold and hot climate areas and will discuss their construction, operation and maintenance and trafficking. Some research results will be used to illustrate some of the problems, but the emphasis will mostly be on contrasting the issues for these roads with those experienced on more heavily trafficked roads that are more familiar to all of us. Some commentary will be provided on maintenance funding alternatives and on operational standards.
About the Speakers
Andrew Dawson is an Associate Professor in the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre. Following a MSc from Imperial in Soil Mechanics almost 40 years ago (!) he worked for various consulting engineers before joining the University of Nottingham where he has specialised in applying geotechnical engineering principals to road construction and maintenance issues.
About the CTS Seminar Series
