Heritage Lottery Fund: Skills for the Future Announcement
We are delighted to announce that the Heritage Lottery Fund have released details of the latest round of Skills for the Future Funding.
Funding of between £100,000 and £750,000 is available to support heritage organisations in delivering paid training placements which meet clear skills shortages as well as actively supporting the diversification of the workforce.
HLF Funding supported Icon's own work based training scheme which supported 146 internship positions between 2006 and 2015 as well as other highly successful programmes such as those delivered by the Bowes Museum and PZ Conservation.
To find out more about Icon's previous HLF Funded Programme you can read the full evaluation report and executive summary here. http://icon.org.uk/what-is-conservation/internships?dm_i=6S6,4CJNT,KRNSHB,FY4JD,1
What can the funding be used for?
Funding is primarily intended to support the cost of work placements to support new entrants to the heritage workforce in areas where there is a clear skills shortage whilst also helping to diversify the workforce. Other elements can be included in the application, however the primary use of the funding must be to support the work placements themselves.
Training should where possible be linked to a clear training programme such as the Icon's Internship Programme. http://icon.org.uk/what-is-conservation/internships?dm_i=6S6,4CJNT,KRNSHB,FY4JD,1
Who can apply for funding?
Organisations must operate on a not for profit basis which is clearly defined in the memorandum and articles of association of the organisation, or be a partnership led by a not for profit organisation. This could be though a variety of structures including charitable trusts and community interest companies.
