Hi Penni,
I'm not sure about the theme as I didn't pay attention to that particulat aspect of apps in my previous research. But I'll keep an eye on it and will let you know if I see one.

I'm not an English native speaker, so most of the time I'm not sensitive to names, culture, etc. Probably wouldn't even tell it was a Scottish theme even when I have actually saw one... but I'll try!

Best,

Yan

I'm not sure. Do you mean apps developed by Scottish companies or having Scottish involved in the process of development? The apps I'm using are mainly from European, North American, and English studios. But there is a studio called Kuato that has Scottish educators involved in app development, but their apps are game apps with stories, not really story apps with some game features.

I have a Ph D student whose topic is Story Apps. She's done a lot of work on the terminology for these. I'll forward your message to her and she should get back to you. She moved to the US last Friday so I suppose it depends on how quickly she gets her internet sorted how soon she responds.
Thanks for your sympathy! Not much consolation but Scotland voted to remain!

Dear all,

Does anyone know of any consensus on how we name narrative apps for children? Sometimes they are based on films, like 'The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore'. Sometimes on fairy tales...

Are any of the following acceptable -
Story apps, storytelling apps, digital picturebooks???

Is there any agreement on terminology? I'd be grateful for advice.

Such sad stories emerging from the UK right now...

Janice
