This exciting post offers a postdoctoral qualitative researcher the opportunity to play a key role in the evaluation of a high profile, national health care improvement programme. The Getting it Right First Time programme (GIRFT) seeks to deliver improvements in quality and reductions in the cost of elective orthopaedic care across England. The post-holder will work on the qualitative components of the study, comprising of interviews, focus groups and observations in provider organisations across England. Working together with another Research Associate, they will manage the day-to-day elements of the study, with responsibility for obtaining necessary ethical and research governance approvals; designing data collection tools; collecting data; analysing data in collaboration with the rest of the research team; writing up findings for publication in collaboration with the project team; and managing relationships between the research team and the participating hospitals and other stakeholders.
This post is available from July 2016 until the end of December 2018 in the first instance.
Key Requirements
Applicants should have (or shortly expect to complete) a PhD in a discipline relevant to applied health research e.g. health services research, psychology, sociology, anthropology organisational research, human geography or equivalent research experience. Applicants should also have experience in using qualitative methods, and experience of conducting research in health care settings or other complex organisations would be desirable.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £29,485 - £31,091 per annum inclusive of LA) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
