Moving from Impact to Value
Wednesday, June 15, 2016
10.30am-4.00pm
Sir Allwyn Williams Building, Level 5, University of Glasgow
Recent socio-economic developments have placed increased pressure on higher education and cultural organisations to demonstrate the impact of their digital resources and initiatives. The associated emphasis on quantitative indicators raises concerns about the difficulties of capturing the real value of cultural resources, and the complex and multifaceted ways in which they affect diverse users.
Should we move away from recording impact and focus our efforts more on capturing the value of cultural collections? What are the implications for sustainability and strategy in this process? And how can this be implemented in practice, incorporating rich qualitative data but maintaining robustness and ensuring comparability in our analysis?
Speakers will include:
Professor Paul Moore<http://www.arts.ulster.ac.uk/RIProfiles.php?e_code=10156429>, Head of School of Creative Arts, Ulster University, “Arts Data and Cultural Value”
Harry Verwayen<http://pro.europeana.eu/person/harry-verwayen>, Deputy Director (Management), Europeana<http://www.europeana.eu/>, “Impact Eats Sustainability for Lunch”
Iain Hamilton<http://www.hie.co.uk/about-hie/offices-and-staff/staff-member.html?id=9cc97aef-ad80-47b0-b7b6-a78a85725cbd>, Head of Creative Industries, Highlands and Islands Enterprise<http://www.hie.co.uk/>, “Putting the Client at the Heart of Your Story”
Dr Tytti Steel<https://tuhat.halvi.helsinki.fi/portal/en/persons/tytti-steel(1329d913-36ef-45e1-ac34-c3fe68faee1d).html>, Postdoctoral Researcher, Social and Economic Sustainability of Future Work-life (WeAll) Consortium<http://www.weallfinland.fi/weall-home.html>, University of Helsinki, “Clash of Clans? From Impact to Value in Finnish Digital Cultural Heritage”
This workshop will appeal to academics and practitioners working in a range of disciplines. Cultural heritage workers, arts professionals and scholars interested in issues relating to digital resources and their impact upon preservation, education, engagement and outreach are invited to register.
The day will include presentations from leading practitioners and scholars based in the UK and Europe, as well as opportunities for group work and discussion among attendees.
We look forward to seeing you there!
