** Apologies for Cross-Posting **
UKSG are pleased to offer this very practical day at the British Library:
UKSG RDA in a day: focusing on serials
Wednesday 20 July 2016, The British Library, Boston Spa
Course summary
This one-day event is a practical introduction to cataloguing with RDA (Resource Description and Access) and will cover the FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) model and RDA terminology. It is an interactive hands-on day during which trainees will learn by using RIMMF<http://marcofquality.com/wiki/rimmf3/doku.php?id=rimmf> (RDA in Many Metadata Formats) and the RDA Toolkit<http://www.rdatoolkit.org> to create RDA records. Creating RDA records in MARC 21 will also be covered.
Why you should attend
Resource Description and Access was published in 2010 and is the new cataloguing code designed to implement the FRBR, superseding the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2). RDA was fully implemented at the British Library and at the Library of Congress in April 2013. This event is aimed particularly at staff cataloguing serials, preferably those who already have a basic understanding of FRBR and want to learn more about RDA and serials.
Course level and previous knowledge required
This is an introduction to RDA for staff with
· experience of serials cataloguing and/or
· knowledge of and interest in serials metadata.
Learning objectives
Delegates should gain a good overview of
· how RDA developed and its relationship to FRBR
· the key changes between AACR2 and RDA and how they impact upon serials cataloguing
· RDA as it is applied to serials, through presentations and a workshop discussing real examples.
