To all my IAML friends
It still seems somewhat unreal – but I will be retiring from Kent Libraries in 3 days’ time with my final working day being 30th June.
After 36 years of working in libraries (firstly Westminster Music Library, then the RNIB and the final 18 years with Kent) I shall be joining the ranks of retired music librarians!
I will continue as Chair of the Conference Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee - for information my new email contact for IAML related "stuff" will be [log in to unmask]
I would just like to say how much my involvement with IAML (UK & Irl) has enriched my working life - serving first on the Courses and Education Committee (highlights being a trip to Dublin to deliver the Music for the terrified Course and Budapest to give an overview of training for music librarians, downs being chilly waits on station platforms for trains from a rather bleak Chesterfield in the days when committee meetings were held there!) and then election to Exec and taking over chairing the conference committee.
Having the opportunity to input at a national level to the profession as well as regularly working with colleagues from other music libraries and sectors has certainly brought depth to my own career and benefitted my own institution.
I would recommend active involvement with IAML (UK & Irl) to you all!
I will continue to subscribe to the list as a retiree and am sure will contribute where appropriate.
Wishing you all the very best for your futures,
Frances Allott, Information Services Librarian, Kent Libraries (for another 3 days!)
