I work on a variety of types of projects with different project managers - I think PRINCE 2 certainly helps if you are in charge of a large capital project where there is significant building works (as most architects use wither PRINCE or an equivalent). However I have mentored and managed a variety of activity based projects and find that basic common sense project management works better than lots of convoluted structures.

Subject: Re: Prince2 Project Management in a heritage setting
I have an Introductory Certificate in Prince 2.
I find the structure very useful but mainly it is important when it comes to applying for any contracts with local authority or national museums as they will, very often, work through Prince 2. In a lot of contracts it stipulates management through this model.
So I think it is worth it if only from ticking another box to get contracts...
