Dear COOTers,
I apologize for bringing this topic to this list but it may also be of
concern for other COOT users.
I recently purchased a new PC for MX where I installed Fedora Core 23
(LXDE spin) and the NVIDIA drivers for 3D vision. As with previous
systems, I also use it remotely via VNC to run PHENIX/COOT/PYMOL.
It happens that with the X server distributed with FC23, indirect GLX
rendering no longer works and all applications requiring OpenGL cannot
be run remotely. I have another system running FC20 and these
applications run OK via VNC albeit a bit slow.
According to the results of a net search it seems that the X server is
now being distributed with the indirect GLX rendering disabled by
default. It should be (theoretically) possible to enable this by running
the server with the +iglx flag but somehow it didn't work on my system.
Another option is to use VirtualGL and it does work, however it requires
that the user be also logged in at the physical display (which kind of
defeats the purpose).
So, I was wondering whether anybody else has faced this problem (and
solved it).
Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.
Pedro Matias
