ACM Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ISS) 2016

Niagara Falls, Canada
November 6-9, 2016
http://iss2016.acm.org/

ACM Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ACM ISS 2016), formerly known as
the ACM International Conference on Interactive Tabletops and
Surfaces (ITS), welcomes original, high-quality research and industry
contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in the area of
interactive surfaces and spaces (including tabletops, large displays,
mobile, and mini devices). We embrace innovations in a wide variety of
areas including design, software, hardware, understanding of use, and
applications or deployments of interactive surfaces.

Call for Workshops:
---------------

Workshops organizers for ISS 2016 will select a topic of
interest about new and emerging interactive surfaces and
spaces technologies. The organizers manage submissions and
reviews for workshops. The deadline for workshop proposal
submissions is June 10, 2016 and the notifications will be
sent on June 15, 2016.

Workshop organizers are welcome to submit any topic of interest, some suggestions include:

* Multi-touch on mobile devices
* Large (wall-sized) surfaces
* Surfaces in public spaces, workplaces, homes
* Surfaces in domain specific environments (e.g. safety
critical, education, games)
* Information or Scientific Visualization on Interactive
Surfaces
* and other exciting topics!

The workshop chairs are looking for leaders in interactive
surfaces and spaces topics to run workshops between 4 and
8 hours in length and occur the day before the conference
starts (i.e., November 06, 2016). Workshop organizers of
full-day workshops will receive two complimentary workshop
registrations; organizers of half-day workshops will
receive one complimentary workshop registration. Workshops
can be open (free to anyone who registered for it) or
closed (attendees need to submit position papers). We
request a short proposal (up to 4 pages) in the SIGCHI
Extended Abstracts publication format
(http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform/sigchi-extended-abstracts-word-template/view).
Accepted proposals will be part of the ISS main proceedings available
in the ACM Digital Library. Please be sure to indicate the following:

* Topic of workshop
* Full contact information of all organizers of the
workshop and the main contacting person
* Relevance to Interactive Surface and Spaces community
* Topics covered in the workshop and planned activities
* Nature of the workshop - specify details as appropriate
* Program Committee members for the workshop
* Please add one additional page (for a total of 5 pages
maximum) with the following information:
- A maximum 200 words Call-for-Papers to your workshop
- Link to workshop website
- Room requirements: tables, chairs, projector
configuration, whiteboards, etc.
- Requested length (4h, 8h)
- Open or closed workshop

This year we are planning to publish a companion
proceedings for the accepted papers in workshops. This
companion proceedings will be published by ACM Digital
Library (non-archival form) and will be searchable in the
ACM Digital Library. The accepted workshops’ organizers
will tell the workshop chairs whether they would like
their workshops’ accepted papers to be part of the
companion proceedings. In the case, if the workshop’s
organizers decide to go for the companion proceedings,
they have to work according to these guidelines:

* Manage a PC and reviewing system for the submitted paper
* It is up to organizers to decide which submission system
(e.g., easychair) they like to use for the submissions
* Our recommendation date for workshop paper submission is
September 30 (However, organizers can make an earlier
deadline as per their convenience) and notification date
is October 07 (hard deadline!). We will provide workshop
organizers a special code for early bid registration that
they will give in the accepted notification to authors.
* The workshop organizers will provide the meta-data of
all the accepted papers to workshop chairs on October 07
(hard deadline!).
* The page limit for workshop papers is up to 7 pages
including references using the SIGCHI Extended Abstracts
publication format
(http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform/sigchi-extended-abstracts-word-template/view).
* The final camera ready deadline for workshop papers is
not set yet, but will be notified to the accepted
workshops’ organizers as we receive the confirmation from
the ACM.

Please submit the workshop proposal using the ISS
Precision Conference ((http://precisionconference.com/~sigchi) until
the deadline on June 10, 2016.

Call for Tutorials:
---------------

The tutorial chairs are looking for industry or academic leaders in
interactive surfaces and spaces technologies to run morning tutorials
(60 or 90 minutes in length) and to participate in an afternoon panel
providing feedback on studio submissions on the day before the
conference starts (November 6, 2016). Organizers of tutorials will
receive one complimentary conference registration. The deadline for
tutorial proposal submissions is June 10, 2016 and the notifications will be
sent on June 15, 2016.

Please feel free to submit a tutorial proposal about any topic of interest to the ISS
community. Tutorials could for example be on topics like:
* Architectural concepts and emerging trends
* Museum and art installation trends
* Interaction paradigms around large surfaces (tangibles, pens+touch, etc.)
* New and emerging body and space sensing technologies
* Overview of social protocols, presence, territoriality, and proxemics
* Evaluation methods for surface applications
* Multi-touch interaction with mobile devices
* Natural User Interfaces (NUI) on surfaces
* ... and other exciting topics!

We request a short proposal (up to 4 pages) in the 2014 SIGCHI Extended Abstracts
 publication format
 (http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform/sigchi-extended-abstracts-word-template/view).
(Note that this format utilizes the "Lastname, F.M." author-name
reference style, not the more recent "Firstname M. Lastname"
convention.) Accepted proposals will be part of the ISS main
proceedings and will be searchable in the ACM Digital
Library. Please indicate the following in your tutorial proposal submission:
* Topic of tutorial of relevance to Interactive Surfaces and Spaces community
