BT Archives
Archives Assistant (One year post, Central London)
Salary: £22,000
Closing date for applications: Friday 16 July 2016.
BT is the oldest communications company in the world, with a history dating back to the dawn of telecommunications. This year we celebrate our 170th birthday.
BT Archives documents the leading role that the UK and BT and its predecessors have played in communications technology since its very beginning, the supply of communications services around the UK and across the globe, and their profound impact on society and in making a better world. BT’s archives are recognised by UNESCO and Arts Council England as having outstanding national and international significance as part of the UK’s cultural heritage. The archives are used extensively by external customers and within BT itself.
We have an exciting new job opportunity for a post-graduate traineeship for someone who is looking for a range of experience in a busy corporate archive before undertaking a qualification in archives. Only applications from people seriously considering such a career will be accepted. Please do not apply if you have already taken, or are currently taking, a postgraduate archive qualification.
The job will start in early September and will run for one year. As this is a temporary post the successful applicant will be required to register with BT's preferred agency.
The nature of the work will be very varied, including sorting and cataloguing, answering enquiries, supervising the public searchroom and retrieving records for researchers, outreach and engagement, digitisation, and inputting data into the archives management databases. Coaching and development will be provided by the other five members of the team, which includes three qualified archivists.
