Traineeship opportunities
Twelve new exciting Transforming Archives Traineeship opportunities based at host archive services across England are being advertised during May and June.
We're looking for trainees with the potential to develop a new career in archives - whether they are looking for a change in direction or just starting out in their career. We want to build on practical skills and experience in technology, languages or education and outreach work and show the great opportunities that archives and their collections can offer.

A new strategic vision for archives
This summer we will be inviting you to a series of roundtables in order to collaboratively create a new vision of a self-sustaining, highly-skilled and effective archive sector in England.
In 2015, we commissioned an independent review of the progress made since Archives for the 21st Century was published.
The outcomes of Archives for the 21st Century demonstrated the value and positive impact of government setting a clear policy direction for the sector. The development of a national policy on archives provided a strategic vision which allowed the archive sector to find, and articulate, their place within the cultural and digital economies.
With help from the sector, we will develop a strong strategic vision to support the case for the archives as a vital part of the nation's heritage.

Developing a collections information policy
We have recently published some new guidance 'Developing a Collections Information Policy' on our website and are now asking for comment to help shape its final content and format.
'Developing a Collections Information Policy' is written for anyone working in an archive service and who is tasked to document their own service's approach to recording and enhancing information about collections held at their archive service, from the point of accessioning onwards.
We would be particularly grateful for any comments about content in the following sections:
1. why have a collections information policy?
2. policy scope and content
Comments should be emailed to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> before 1 July 2016. Please add 'Collections Information policy feedback' in your subject line

Staff and change
Monday 6 June 2016
10:30 - 16:30
at The National Archives
This training aims to explore how archive services can engage with their staff and volunteers through periods of change. The training will be a mix of theory and case studies, discussion and practical exercises so that all participants can explore how to:
* use change as a driver to analyse their business planning, distribution of resources and getting the right vision for their service
* address conflicts that may come with change such as space, digital and partnerships
* getting the right balance between what is desired and what is achievable.
Places are limited, so book now.

Unlock funding
There are examples within the sector of Friends groups working in partnership with their service to enable the archive to meet it's aims; using their time, networks and skills to generate a regular income. this course looks at some of these examples and what we can learn from them.
The day will create the environment in which you can step back and consider your current working relationship with your Friends group and your volunteers. Could you get them fundraising? What would you need to do to enable them to effectively raise money? What support is there to help you do this? All these questions will be answered on the day.
