Come and have your say on the future vision for archives
Over the coming months, The National Archives will collaborate with archive professionals, key stakeholders and strategic partners from the cultural, creative and digital sectors to:
* develop a strong strategic vision to support the case for archives as a vital part of the nation's heritage;
* explore and build on the themes of digital transformation; innovation and financial resilience; people and education; and sector leadership; and
* produce a future vision on archives to secure the best possible long-term future for archive collections and services.
The need for a future vision was identified by An independent evaluation<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/archives/archives-for-21st-exec-summary.pdf> carried out in 2014 where it was confirmed that the current policy, Archives for the 21st Century<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/whats-happening-now/government-policy-on-archives/>, and subsequent action plans<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/archives/archives21centuryrefreshed-final.pdf> had prompted notable achievements in raising the profile of archives, increasing digital access and developing and delivering effective commercial and cultural partnerships but we need to do more.
In coming weeks we will be holding roundtable events which are open to anyone with interest in the future of the archive sector and the bigger cultural debate:
* 11 July in Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre
* 25 July in The National Archives
* 27 July in The Priory Rooms Birmingham
* 29 July The University of Manchester
You can find more information and book place for all the events here<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/developing-a-new-vision-for-archives.htm>.
Other opportunities to contribute to the development of the vision will include an online survey, as well as interviews across the sector and hosting Twitter Q&A sessions.
With your help, we will develop a strong strategic vision promoting archives as a vital part of the nation's heritage.
