Dear all,
I have some money (about £9K max) to spend on the archbot lab this year, which presents the opportunity to upgrade our current rather basic set up with regard to dendrometric applications. So I am looking for a suitable trinocular stereozoom microscope (capable of x80 or above native magnification) and an XY travelling stand that could reasonably tackle continuous ring measurements on wood charcoal specimens.
I have also been checking out imaging system options such as for example Image-Pro Plus 7 (or rather its more advanced version Image-Pro Insight 9, which is likely to offer slightly better performance re: reducing the effects of differences in the depth of field, as it is originally designed for materials analysis) (see here for example: http://www.mediacy.com/imageproinsight). Yet, as this is likely to set us back at least 3K if not more, I am open to suggestions for other imaging solutions, especially by anthracologists who may have been developing and/or working with a range of image capture solutions for dendrometric applications.
Any ideas/suggestions/recommendations re: microscopes and/or image capture software that are not forbiddingly expensive yet can do the job are welcome.
All the best,
Eleni
