Applications are invited for a Research associate to carry out
functional assays on plant borate transporters in the group of Dr Alex
Jones in collaboration with Dr Alex Cameron at the University of Warwick
and Dr Bernadette Byrne (Imperial College).
Boron is an essential micronutrient of plants but is toxic when in
excess. Borate transporters are integral membrane protein belonging to
the SLC4 family, and are expressed in specific cell types in plant
roots. We are interested in boron exporter function and will use
mutations derived from structural models to explore the functional role
of specific amino acids of BOR1 in Arabidopsis and rice.
This collaborative project includes two new posts; a plant scientist at
Warwick and a structural biologist at Imperial College (advertised
separately). Your role will be to focus on the screening of BOR1
mutations (identified by the structural group) in protoplasts and before
generating transgenic plants for functional assays, phenotyping and
sub-cellular localisation.Applicants should have a PhD in
biochemistry/plant science or a related discipline or an equivalent
level of professional expertise.
Funding at level 6 (£28,982 – £37,768) is available for a maximum of 36
months;
Interview date: w/c 4th July 2016
Start date: 1st September 2016
