CALL FOR PAPERS
Call text: Panel participants will share their research on the interactions between divinatory tools (Tarot cards, “spirit” or Ouija boards, pendulums, pens/automatic writing, gazing implements, bibliomancy, etc.) and spirit communication across the world’s religious traditions. We encourage theoretically informed proposals and papers that draw on anthropological, area studies, art historical, cultural studies, ethnographic, historical, phenomenological, psychological, and sociological approaches and methods.
Topics for this panel may include, but are not limited to:
A.) Historical and cultural analysis of divinatory “things” as they intersect with
traditions of spirit communication and fortune-telling.
B.) Representations of spirit communication and/or divinatory tools in literature,
film, and television.
C.) Space and place as a tool for spirit communication and fortune-telling.
All participants should be prepared to present their work as scholarly research and/or for the benefit of an interested audience of academics.
Submissions should be made online at http://ncp.pcaaca.org no later than October 1, 2016. Proposals should include your CV, short biography (100-150 words), and abstract (100-250 words).
