I completely agree. Sometimes the metaphor of the table works for me in teaching situations.
As teachers, facilitators etc we lay the table and prepare the food, but after that we have (and should neither expect nor plan for) no control on how these elements are taken, eaten, re-blended, shared, discarded.
That is why I am very suspicious of the notion of "learning objectives", even "learning plans " etc.
If you know what you have to learn you have possibly already learned it
