The Leonard Cheshire Disability archive team are currently looking for Digital Volunteers to take part in the charity's Heritage Lottery Fund supported project Rewind.
We are looking for volunteers to help create transcripts of archive film and audio material and oral histories relating to the charity Leonard Cheshire Disability.
We have been digitising a wealth of audio-visual material relating to Leonard Cheshire Disability’s history and recording oral histories with disabled people who used the charity’s services, staff members and volunteers. This material will be preserved in the charity’s archive and made available to the public on a new heritage website launching at the end of 2016.
This volunteer role involves creating transcripts of archive film and audio content and newly recorded oral histories, in order to make this material accessible for as many people as possible.
We are looking for a pool of volunteers who are happy to create transcripts remotely at home – we will be using a file sharing system to share the films and audio with volunteers. Volunteers will receive a full online induction to the charity, remote training in transcription techniques for audio-visual content and ongoing support.
Commitment is flexible, but ideally we are looking for volunteers who could spend at least half a day a week on this project until approx. September 2016. We will be creating further transcripts up until mid-2017 meaning that interested volunteers could continue with the project for longer.
We are looking for volunteers who have strong IT skills, with experience using Microsoft Word and file sharing services such as Dropbox, and the ability to play film and audio content on a laptop/PC. We are looking for people who are self-motivated and reliable, have good interpersonal skills, and who are interested in the history of disability and social inclusion and/or local history.
This volunteering role is based remotely and volunteers would not be expected to travel.
To apply, please send a CV and short cover letter about why you would be interested in this volunteer role to Annie at [log in to unmask] or by post to Annie Ward, Heritage Project Manager, Leonard Cheshire Disability, 66 South Lambeth Road, London SW8 1RL
