Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the release of my book, Mozart’s Music of Friends: Social Interplay in the Chamber Works (Cambridge University Press, 2016). The book integrates a historical study of sociability and stylized “conversation” with analytical approaches to musical form and phrase rhythm. The analyses aim to model the sense of interplay and agency musicians may experience as they play these pieces together.
A short author video is available on the companion website (http://www.MozartsMusicOfFriends.com). The site has a number of other resources that may be of interest, including a gallery of historical illustrations and a number of supplemental analytical videos, so I invite you or your students to check it out.
I can share this link to order the book at a 20% discount (http://bit.ly/1TEFkWW), and it should be available in a paperback edition in a year or so.
Best,
Ed
