PhD position in Theoretical Chemistry/Computational Biophysics - Research Training Group "Complex Scenarios of Light Control" (CLiC)
Applications are invited for a PhD position in biomolecular modeling and simulation within the DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG) "Complex Scenarios of Light Control (CLiC)" located at Goethe University Frankfurt, http://www.clic.uni-frankfurt.de. The position is available in the research group of Prof. Irene Burghardt at the Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, http://www.theochem.uni-frankfurt.de.
The RTG is dedicated to educating PhD students in the synthetic realization, theoretical description, photochemical characterization and biomolecular application of photolabile protecting strategies for the control of chemical and biological processes with light.
The PhD project will focus on molecular dynamics simulations and Markov state modeling, along with selected electronic structure calculations and hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) approaches. The successful candidate will collaborate with several experimental groups participating in the RTG, as well as the theory group of Prof. Bettina Keller (FU Berlin).
Requirements include an M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Biophysics, or Biochemistry. Experience in computational biophysics and in particular molecular dynamics simulations is desirable. Applicants are expected to bring a high level of creativity and strong motivation for interdisciplinary work. German language skills are helpful but not mandatory.
The position is available immediately, and applications will be considered until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and the names of two referees, by e-mail to Prof. I. Burghardt: [log in to unmask]
