Former BBC journalist Gordon Lamont is leading a one-day podcasting
workshop for beginners at Ideas Test in Sittingbourne on May 24th, 2016.
The history-themed workshop is all about making really engaging podcasts
using low-cost digital equipment and software.

Just to tell you more about the event, Ideas Test creative network
programmer Jon Pratty and Gordon Lamont created a quick podcast - about
podcasting! <https://soundcloud.com/gordon-l/podcasting-podcast>

With the advent of high-quality low-cost digital recorders, inexpensive or
free editing software like Audacity
<https://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/> and SoundCloud
<https://soundcloud.com/>, the creative possibilities of podcasting are
more accessible than ever before. Making the most of these exciting
opportunities to create material that people actually listen to, is more
challenging, however. The workshop will cover:

· Using the kit to make quality recordings

· Hints and tips for creating engaging material

· Editing and publishing

By the end of the day participants will have worked together to create a
whole published podcast on the theme of Look Up! exploring the history of
Sittingbourne High Street above the modern shop fronts. The day will be of
particular interest to those working in the museum, gallery library and
archive sectors.

*What do I need to bring?*

All equipment will be provided but if you have your own digital recorder
and/or headphones (not ear buds), feel free to bring along. Other than
this, the day is self-contained.

*Who will run the session?*

Gordon Lamont is a Sittingbourne resident, and a freelance content creator
since leaving BBC Learning in 2001. He trained as a radio drama producer
and has written and/or directed more than 300 broadcast programmes. An
experienced trainer who has worked for the BBC Academy, Upfront Induction
course, the Actors Centre and others, Gordon brings a wealth of hands-on
production and training experience, an understanding of both the creative
power of sound and the sheer fun of making audio material.

Event runs from 11am til 4pm, with refreshments provided.
