This isn't a website I've come across & I found myself wondering whether these were self-published items. The website doesn't appear to say how they find their authors.
I guess it really depends upon the quality of the individual titles. If the tutor thinks they are good and cover what he wants the students to know, then I would say it's a good idea as anything that reduces students' costs has to be good.
I share your concern that people assume that just because one title is good, others are too but they could probably Google the topics and come across these titles anyway so it may be better for the tutor to select the best and recommend them rather than students stumbling across poorer resources by chance.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] BookBoon
Hello all,
I have had a query regarding BookBoon.com from a lecturer. He has found a few books on there he thinks will be useful for international students as they are more accessible. It doesn't look very "academic" and I am concerned that if lecturers start to recommend resources on BookBoon that students will assume the information is all high quality. Does anyone have any prior experience with it? Any advice?
Thanks
