The GIS team in Predictive Analytics acts as the pre-eminent source of knowledge and expertise on all matters relating to spatial data, systems and analytics for the UK General Insurance Business. You’ll work closely with external data and software vendors as well as internal stakeholders and the rest of the team to maintain Aviva’s reputation as an industry leader in the use of GIS. The GIS team consists of two analysts and one manager, reporting to the Senior Household Analytics Manager within Predictive Analytics.
Your customers will include Underwriting and Pricing teams in both Commercial Lines and Personal Lines teams, as well as Operations and Claims teams, to fulfil their GIS requirements. You’ll work with the Predictive Analytics Team to develop and deliver innovative geospatial rating factors; mapping systems to deliver insight to end-users and other geospatial insight to help shape and drive the analytics agenda forward. A key function of the team is the implementation of our Flood Strategy and supporting the business in selecting the correct risks to underwrite.
Essential Knowledge & Skills
• A degree in geography, GIS or related subject; or several years of demonstrable experience in a related role;
• Advanced ESRI ArcGIS desktop skills;
• Experience of relational databases, geodatabases and SQL;
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
• Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate with a wide range of groups and individuals at various seniority levels.
Desirable Knowledge & Skills
• Flood modelling knowledge / experience;
• Web mapping application development (ArcServer or Open Source eg. GeoServer);
• Open Source GIS (eg. QGIS);
• Knowledge of insurance industry.
