The Geomatics team is the centre of expertise for remote sensing data collection and analysis within the Environment Agency.
Role:
Processing survey data to support the delivery of our national programs, using specialist software and GIS to process and quality control data from our state of the art LIDAR instrumentation.
Education:
For this post, you will have a good degree in a relevant scientific discipline. A high level of competence in Esri ArcGIS (or similar level of GIS) and preferably be able to demonstrate recent experience working with complex mapping data such as LIDAR or aerial photography
Skills:
Must be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of a GIS environment with a particular emphasis on:
• Working with raster and vector data formats, in particular making and editing shapefiles, creating elevation models and hillshade’s, querying datasets
• Spatial analysis of raster elevation models
• A basic knowledge of how a LIDAR Sensor works and its practical applications within the EA, i.e. use in flood modelling etc
• A basic knowledge of how GNSS works
This is for a short term post (to 31 March 2017), based in Bath, England. The work is through a recruitment agency, rather than direct with the Environment Agency. The pay will be equivalent £21,991 per annum and there will be an interview process followed by any successful candidates then needing to register with the recruitment agency Brook Street.
