A joint University of Hamburg/ILL PhD position is available from October
1st 2016 to use neutron spectroscopy and crystallography in combination
with THz & and fs-infrared spectroscopy to study functionally related
protein dynamics and structure. The project is jointly supervised by
Arwen Pearson (crystallography) and Nils Huse (THz and IR spectroscopy)
from the University of Hamburg and Trevor Forsyth (neutron
crystallography) and Tilo Seydel (neutron spectroscopy) from the
Institute Laue Langevin, Grenoble. The student will spend year 1 in
Hamburg, at the Centre for Ultrafast Imaging, and years 2 and 3 in ILL’s
Life Science Group.
The successful applicant will take an interdisciplinary approach,
combining neutron spectroscopy and crystallography with steady-state and
femtosecond (fs) spectroscopy, in order to understand the link between
fast local structural changes and slower global structural
rearrangements, enabling us to understand how these structural dynamics
combine to give rise to exquisitely controlled biochemical processes.
More details about the project and application procedure can be found at
http://www.cui.uni-hamburg.de/en/openpositions/
The application deadline is June 19th.
