Gitanjali Pyndiah, in conversation with Kavyta Raghunandan, will be reading a passage from her own fiction. She will talk about the Indian-Mauritian writers, past and present, who have influenced her own creative writing.
4th May 2-2:30pm
Kavyta Raghunandan will speak to Maria del Pilar Kaladeen about Peggy Mohan's Jahajin. What impact did reading this novel, set during the period of indenture in Trinidad, have on a sociologist who works on contemporary Trinidad?
5th May 2-2:30pm
Maria del Pilar Kaladeen will be speaking to Catherine Gilbert about three Guyanese novels: David Dabydeen's The Intended, Moses Nagamootoo's Hendree's Cure and Jan Lowe Shinebourne's The Last English Plantation. She will discuss how these works of fiction influenced her historical research into the system of indenture.
