Apologies for any cross- posting: few places still remaining
The Applied Qualitative Health Research Group is pleased to announce its next symposium which will focus on exploring the processes of doing research in the digital age. The meeting will be held at: Newcastle University London, 102 Middlesex Street, London E1 7EZ
Some of the pragmatics of our research have changed - using facebook as a recruitment tool and a source of data, twitter to discover new work and to diffuse our own work and skype as a meeting venue and an interview setting. Papers include:
• ‘Online v. offline? How different are they, and does it matter?’ - Lisa Hinton, C Dumelow, J Hollowell. (Oxford University)
• ‘A researcher’s reflections on using social media and Skype in qualitative research on a sensitive and emotive topic’ - Alison Gregory, (University of Bristol)
• ‘The use and value of online forum spaces in researching men’s experiences of infertility’ - Esmée Hanna and Brendan Gough (Leeds Beckett University)
• ‘Using Facebook as a recruitment platform for qualitative health research: practicalities, ethical dilemmas, and lessons learned’ - Becca Patterson, (Newcastle University)
With the rise of digital cultures, for example, e-medicine, telehealth, big-data, online patient communities, googling symptoms, the organisation of health and healthcare has transformed. Papers include:
• ‘Why do people Google STI symptoms?’ - Fiona Mapp, LSHTM
• ‘The Challenges of Researching eHealth Implementations’ - Gemma Moore, Maria Quinlan, Gerardine Doyle and Susi Geiger (UC Dublin)
• ‘Developing a conceptual framework of public trust in relation to the care.data programme by using news readership comments’ - Felix Gille, Sarah Smith, Nicholas Mays, LSHTM
