PhD Studentship in Design Thinking for Policy Making Practice
University of the Arts London (UAL) and King’s College London are launching
a joint PhD studentship that will bring together for the first time
expertise in these two institutions to develop cross-disciplinary research.
This is a collaboration between the Innovation Insights Hub at UAL and The
Policy Institute at King’s. It presents a unique context for students to
explore, develop and assess the intersections between design and policy
making.
The UAL Innovation Insights Hub connects insights and ideas from creative
research and practice to contemporary challenges resulting in innovative
outcomes for society and business. Working with staff and students across
UAL, the Hub is based at Central Saint Martins (CSM) in King’s Cross.
Current projects include delivering training on design thinking for civil
servants in collaboration with Policy Lab in the Cabinet Office and
supporting the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre to develop an EU
Policy Lab.
The Policy Institute at King’s College London acts as a hub, linking
insightful research with rapid, relevant policy analysis to stimulate
debate, inform and shape policy agendas. Building on King’s central London
location at the heart of the global policy conversation, its vision is to
enable the translation of academic research into policy and practice by
facilitating engagement between academic, business and policy communities
around current and future policy needs, both in the UK and globally. The
Policy Institute combines the academic excellence of King’s with the
connectedness of a think tank and the professionalism of a consultancy.
